Ghostpine is currently seeking an Intermediate Fisheries Biologist who has a degree in biology or environmental science majoring in fish or fish habitat related studies. The primary responsibility will be to conduct fisheries and aquatic assessments on a variety of projects within western Canada.
Responsibilities
- Initiating and managing projects
- Developing and conducting field programs (as field crew lead)
- Conducting construction monitoring for watercourse crossings
- Inspecting erosion and sediment control measures
- Analyzing and presenting results of field studies and monitoring programs
- Developing fish habitat no net loss strategies/habitat compensation plans
- Preparing technical reports
- Supervising and training junior staff
- Developing and maintaining client contacts
- Preparing proposal and marketing materials
Education and Experience
- Minimum Bachelor of Science in Biology, Natural Resource Management or equivalent with 3-5 years consulting experience
- Eligibility for Professional Biologist designation in Alberta or Registered Professional Biologist in BC
- Ability to safely operate small boats, inboard and outboard motors and all-terrain vehicles.
- Demonstrated Project Management skills
- Knowledge of current provincial and federal government regulatory requirements
- Strong technical, communication, and organization skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Provide mentoring to junior staff
Mandatory qualification requirements include:
- current certification in First Aid, WHMIS, TDG, H2S Alive, Electrofishing, and ATV safety;
Please note that some work for this position will be located in remote areas for extended periods of time and may require overtime, weekends and variable hours. The position is physically demanding therefore the candidate should be in good physical shape. Relevant oil and gas and regulatory experience would be an asset.
